HCL shortlisted by BBC for $300 million contract

CL Technologies is among the six IT service providers shortlisted by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) for a nearly $300 million infrastructure management services (IMS) contract. The others in the fray include incumbent and French IT biggie Atos, IBM, and HP Enterprises. The broadcaster is expected to shorten it further to three service providers in October. The contract goes into execution phase early next year.

HCL is the only Indian IT player invited for the deal, thanks to its long-time prowess in infrastructure management services. The IMS contract involves managing the service desk, data centre management and end-user computing to ensure seamless integration of various services. "This is a big and somewhat historically troubled contract," said Peter Bendor-Samuel, CEO of US-based Everest Research.

"The fact that there are so many vendors bidding is a clear indication that BBC is open to making a change. Anyone who was not open to a change would never have put this on the market and a contract would have been put in place last year with steep price discounts," he said.
